The Chicken Who Thought She Was a Bat – a new book for kids

This week, I am launching, “The Chicken Who Thought She Was a Bat” which is the next book in the Critter Creek Farm series. I want to tell you more about why I wrote the series. “The Chicken Who Thought She Was a Goat” was first in the series and was a reconfiguration of my original book, “The Adventures of MerryLyn – The Curious Chicken.” I was inspired to write the book when my husband and I raised eight chickens from being little chicks. One of the chicks seemed to pose for the camera, looking like Marilyn Monroe. I wanted her to be more “friendly” sounding so, MerryLyn was born!

When the book didn’t reach its potential, my husband suggested that I redo the book with different illustrations to give the story the extra spark it needed. He was right! Working with the talented Zuzana Svobodova was a delight. The essence of my characters came to life with her stunning illustrations. And, now more than 1600 people have enjoyed the book in the last two months!

Enter Chick Chick, the Polish Chicken, an adorable chicken I met on Instagram. She’s a Polish Chicken. Polish Chickens have a mass of feathers on their head and are absolutely adorable! I asked Zuzana to create a character based on her, and voila, Popsy was born!

Popsy, MerryLyn, GitYer, and the other critters on the farm have a great time with one another and are becoming wonderful friends. There are many more adventures on the way! Stay tuned for why Popsy thinks she’s a bat!
